The Foundations of Spirit Release Academy

The origins of the work taught today by Spirit Release Academy can be traced back to a unique collaboration between Andy Porter, Dr Terence Palmer PhD, and the Spirit Guide known as Chen.

In 2011, Andy Porter and Chen began a research programme with Dr Terence Palmer PhD to explore the relationship between consciousness, spiritual influence, spirit attachment, possession phenomena, and the mechanisms through which these experiences may affect human behaviour, emotions, thoughts, and wellbeing.

Over the following decade, thousands of hours were dedicated to research, case analysis, practical investigation, and the development of what became known as the Remote Spirit Release (RSR) Protocol.

This work combined Dr Palmer’s academic background in psychology, hypnosis, mysticism, psychical research, and medicine with Andy Porter’s practical experience and the spiritual teachings communicated through Chen.

Who Was Dr Terence Palmer?

Dr Terence Palmer held:

  • A Degree in Psychology from Canterbury Christ Church University

  • A Master’s Degree in Mysticism and Religious Experience from the University of Kent

  • A Doctorate from the University of Wales, Bangor

He was also:

  • A Member of the Scientific and Medical Network

  • A Member of the Society for Psychical Research

  • A Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine

His professional expertise included:

  • Hypnotherapy

  • Regression Therapy

  • Ego Parts Therapy

  • Psychoneuroimmunology (PNI)

  • Psychosomatic Medicine

  • Stress Management

  • Spirit Release Therapy (SRT)

  • Soul Centred Healing

Telepathic Hypnosis: A Key Discovery

One of Dr Palmer’s most significant areas of study was the concept of Telepathic Hypnosis.

Drawing on the work of Frederic Myers, Pierre Janet, Charles Richet, Leonid Vasiliev, and many other researchers, Palmer became convinced that consciousness could be influenced through mechanisms that extended beyond conventional models of communication and suggestion.

He believed that historical research provided evidence that hypnotic and trance states could be induced at a distance without direct verbal suggestion.

For Palmer, this was not simply a historical curiosity.

He proposed that telepathic hypnosis may provide an important framework for understanding possession phenomena and spirit influence.

In The Science of Spirit Possession (2nd Edition), Palmer argued that:

  • Invited possession occurs when a person knowingly allows a spirit communicator to work through them.

  • Uninvited possession occurs when influence takes place without knowledge or consent.

  • Telepathic hypnosis may represent one mechanism through which such influence occurs.

He considered this concept central to understanding how consciousness may be affected by both visible and invisible influences.

Testing the Theory

Between 2011 and 2021, Dr Palmer and Andy Porter actively explored and tested many of these concepts through practical casework and research clients.

Their aim was to better understand how consciousness could be influenced, how spiritual interference might manifest, and whether the theories proposed by earlier researchers could help explain experiences that did not fit comfortably within conventional psychological models.

Through ongoing observation, documentation, case analysis, and practical application, Dr Palmer and Andy Porter sought to identify recurring patterns associated with altered states of consciousness, spirit attachment, possession phenomena, and the role that telepathic influence may play within these experiences.

This practical research became a cornerstone of the wider investigation and helped establish many of the foundational principles that would later form the basis of the Remote Spirit Release (RSR) Protocol.

For Dr Palmer and Andy Porter, telepathic hypnosis was not simply an interesting historical theory. It was a living area of investigation that offered a possible explanation for many of the experiences reported by research participants and clients throughout the programme.

The Role of Chen

Throughout the research programme, Chen provided teachings relating to:

  • Spiritual sovereignty

  • Practitioner protection

  • Spirit attachment

  • Energetic contamination

  • Spirit release

  • Consciousness and influence

  • Safe methods of spiritual intervention

Many of the foundational principles taught within SRA today originated from these teachings.

Chen consistently emphasised:

  • Personal responsibility

  • Discernment

  • Protection

  • Ethical practice

  • Working in partnership with Spirit Guides

His guidance helped shape the practical framework that would later become the Remote Spirit Release Protocol.

Development of the Remote Spirit Release Protocol

Between 2011 and 2021, Andy Porter, Chen, and Dr Terence Palmer worked together to develop and refine the Remote Spirit Release (RSR) Protocol.

The objective was to create a structured, repeatable, and safe approach that could be applied consistently while prioritising:

  • Practitioner safety

  • Client wellbeing

  • Spiritual sovereignty

  • Ethical boundaries

  • Clear assessment procedures

The RSR Protocol was co-developed by Andy Porter, Chen, and Dr Terence Palmer PhD through a decade of research, practical investigation, casework, and protocol development.

This work represented the culmination of ten years of research, investigation, and practical application.

The Science of Spirit Possession

On 25 May 2017, Dr Palmer released:

The Science of Spirit Possession (2nd Edition)

The book brought together decades of research into hypnosis, possession phenomena, psychical research, telepathic hypnosis, consciousness studies, and spirit influence.

Many of the concepts explored within the book continue to inform the philosophical foundations of the work taught at Spirit Release Academy today.

Continuing the Legacy

Dr Terence Palmer passed away in 2021.

His contribution to the field of spirit release, hypnosis, psychical research, and consciousness studies continues to influence practitioners around the world.

Following his passing, Andy Porter and Jonno Webster continued developing and refining the work, building upon the foundations established through the original collaboration between Andy, Chen, and Dr Palmer.

Today, Spirit Release Academy (SRA) teaches the Spirit Guided Remote Spirit Release (SGRSR) Protocol, a structured facilitator and medium team approach designed to prioritise safety, sovereignty, discernment, and Spirit Guide collaboration.

The work remains rooted in the original research programme that began in 2011 and continues the shared vision of helping individuals move towards greater freedom, clarity, and wellbeing.
