Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram – (LBRP)
Ritual, is highly dynamic, using Gesture, Visualization and the Pronunciation of certain Words of Power
The Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram (LBRP) is a foundational ceremonial magic practice originally devised and taught by the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. Over time, it has become one of the most widely recognised and consistently practised rituals within modern occult and esoteric traditions. Designed primarily as a method of purification, protection, and energetic alignment, the LBRP is intended to clear the practitioner’s space and subtle body of unwanted or disruptive influences before any further magical or spiritual work is undertaken.
Within the Golden Dawn system, the importance of this ritual could not be overstated. It was regarded as an essential daily discipline and was often the only operational ritual taught to new members, aside from formal initiation ceremonies. Students were expected to practise the LBRP regularly, sometimes for months or even years, before being permitted to advance to the Inner Order. This emphasis reflected the belief that mastery of foundational practices, personal balance, and energetic control were prerequisites for any deeper or more advanced occult training.
As a result, the LBRP has come to be viewed not merely as a banishing ritual, but as a core exercise for developing focus, authority, and stability within ceremonial magic. Its continued use across many contemporary magical systems speaks to its enduring influence and perceived effectiveness as a preparatory and grounding practice.
